HOW EVERYTHING STARTED

In 1980 it was decided to initiate a central organisation, where all drivers of an Austin or Morris Mini or Mini Cooper, as well as all its derivatives, would be registered. All the information on cars, spare parts and accessories, clubs and events would be registered here and given out whenever needed. It was also to be the centre of information for the public, press, as well as companies. 1981 saw an almost unanimous vote from regional German clubs against the idea.

Initially called MINI REGISTER WESER/EMS, the Register was then founded. The initial idea had caught on and a number of enthusiasts had decided, it was worthwhile. But the Registers purpose was modified to the needs of the Register club members. The Register was then to become a Mini Club with members in all of Germany as well as in other European countries.

THE IDEA

One of the Registers primary aims is to arouse enthusiasm amongst the people of Germany for cars of the marque MINI and all it's derivatives and to keep a stock of as many of these derivatives as we can, even beyond the end of production. The Register promotes the varied use and capabilities of the MINI and therefore upholds international contacts and sees itself responsible for representing the interests of it's members.

By joining the Mini Register v. D. the members have access to specialised knowledge, experience, parts-stocks and technical documentation, that is registered with the club committee. This allows a co-ordination of information and assistance between members.

EVENTS 1981 - 1997

Mini of the Year - Trophy

The aim was to have a fair concours-type competition split into 5 groups:- original, versatile, chic, sports and extraordinary. It was to give those Mini drivers, who spent hours and hours building up their car, a chance to have their work judged by a specialist jury . The Register Concours was held at the same time as the organisers public competition of the "nicest Mini". The Register Trophy was discontinued in 1990.

Hovercraft 1984 - 25th Anniversary of the Mini

In order for all German and other European mainland Mini drivers to take part at the Mini birthday party at Donington in England, a channel crossing via hovercraft was organised. As these craft could only carry approx. 75 cars, a further one and a half hovercraft were added, as 120 Minis wanted to make the trip ...

Techno Classica 1989 - 1997

The Mini Register v. D., together with the Münster Mini Club was the first Mini Club to use this show for historic and classic cars to promote the Mini to the public. The initial opposition from other historic car clubs was soon to set and the small British car was finally welcomed into the community of classic cars. Our stand at the show was seen by the motoring public with great enthusiasm and we were relieved. The next 10 years saw the Mini exhibitions presented by clubs, workshops, parts dealers and other specialists grow and grow. In 1996 the organisers even tried to get all the Minis into one of the halls and since then, the hall no. 7 is called the HALL OF MINIS! Techno Classica 98

"A Ship to England" - 30th Birthday of the Mini

A Hovercraft was hardly enough for the trip to the IMM `89 in Silverstone. The Mini Register chartered a ship and had over 220 Minis taken across the channel. Even then, a number of Minis had to be transferred to a further ferry.

THE PRESS AND MOTORSPORT

Not only the trade press consult the Register for articles on buying or presenting the Mini, but also anyone else seeking his or her dream Mini. Partly due to the fact, that you find Register-members in the business in Mini workshops or parts companies, but also because their tireless enthusiasm accounts for a fundamental background knowledge in many aspects of the car. Whether for the sliding window Minis, estate versions, Innocentis or Cooper S, you will find all classes covered.
You can also find some members on the stands, in the box or in the race car at rally or race events.
